Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes - July 24, 2012

First you collect the supplies for yet another Christmas ornament discovered on Pinterest.  Then you just wind together good colors of pipe cleaners, cut them down into a reasonable length, and create a candy cane shape.
Tie on a ribbon and maybe a bell and you're done!

Paint Swatch Christmas Trees - July 22, 2012

Another Christmas ornament I found on Pinterest are Christmas trees made out of paint chips.  First you collect  paint swatches in various shades of green from various home improvement stores.

I also grabbed one in shades of brown for the trunk.  Then cut the trees and add the trunks.
Added ribbon and a star on top to finish it off.

And we're done!

Wine Cork Angels - July 21, 2012

I'm going to make Christmas ornaments until November.  Then I'm going to box up small collections of the ornaments I've made and gift them to people for various reasons.  My cousin who is getting married in August, my sister who recently moved in with her boyfriend, a newly divorced friend who may need Christmas ornaments not attached to memories of her marriage.

I'm collecting items from friends and family.  And I finally took a list of additional items with me into the craft store and spent $35 to finish some ideas I've found on Pinterest.  This is my first ornament.

The wine cork angel was an idea I found on Pinterest.  The link takes me to nothing, but the image was enough for me to figure it out.  First I got everything together.
Then I made the heads with halos.
Tried glue to add the wings, but the straight pins I bought work better with less mess.

So, the finished product...
Merry Christmas!

Use a thimble to push in the pins to the cork.  The one for the head isn't too hard, but one for the wings goes in with difficulty and at such an angle that the first batch I made caused me to lose feeling in the tip of my right index finger for a few days.  I made more last night using the thimble, and while I might have bent a couple more straight pins than I did with the first batch, at least I can feel the tip of my finger.

Crafting More Boxes - July 18, 2012

Another Pinterest item I saw was using duct tape to make a cardboard box into a storage box.  So, I have these two boxes from Zappos.

And since they're kinda big and mod podge didn't work for the smaller boxes I had, I figured duct tape was my answer.  So here you go.

I used black duct tape with just a stripe of black-and-white zebra duct tape.  Now all I have to do is figure out what I'm organizing this week that will go in them.

Happy crafting!

Crafting Gift Tags - July 17, 2012

As my friends and boyfriend know, I've become obsessed with Pinterest.  I keep pinning cute ideas and am determined to use them.  It's July, but I keep finding great Christmas ideas.  I figure that if i start them now, I might actually have things to show at Christmas time.

This one idea had someone wrapping a gift in a word search of their own creation.  A website allows you to enter your words into a word search, and the website creates it for you!  I decided to make a smaller one, and make them into gift tags.  So I entered the names of all my family members that I buy gifts for come Christmas time.

Then backed them with Christmas colored papers from my scrapbooking stash. And cut them into tag shape.

Now, when I wrap a gift for someone, I grab one of these tags, find the gift recipient's name on it, circle their name and write "to" nearby.  Find my name (or my boyfriend's name since I end up wrapping most of his gifts too), and put "from" nearby.  Besides names, I also included family relationships like 'Mom' and 'Boyfriend' in case I want to get especially creative with my gift tags.  Use a red felt marker and it'll look adorable.

And if people are bored in between opening their gifts, they can see what other words they can find on their gift tags.
